Every summer the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation runs an excellent Junior Lifeguard program. Demand is high for the spaces available, so sign up early!
The minimum age of Junior Guard's at Manresa and Twin Lakes is 9...no exceptions!!
*** Reason for Change***
This year we decided to change the age limits for the programs to be more beneficial to the Junior Guards. Our attendance of little guards at Twin Lakes and Manresa has been very low for the past few years which make it difficult to do activities with the children. We have an incredible little guard program at Seacliff with a large amount of 6-8 years olds and calmer water conditions. We have decided this will be the best way to maximize the activities and safety for the kids! We apologize if this creates an inconvenience.
Little Guards (6-8 years old) will be at Seacliff ONLY!!
All participants will be required to bring a copy of their birth certificate in order to register.
Both sessions will be 4 weeks long.
Scholarships will be offered to first time recipients only If you have received a scholarship in the past, you are no longer eligible.
There is NO discount offered for siblings or junior guards participating in both sessions.

Last day to turn in scholarship application - May 5, 2012. No applications will be processed after that date.
ALL new participants MUST complete the swim test requirement BEFORE submitting an application.
Once the swim test has been completed, your spot in the program will be saved and you may register your child online any time between May 10th and May 24th.
Priority registration for past participants has now expired as of 5/2/2012. Past participants must come to the tryout on 5/5 or 5/19 to register, otherwise must wait until May 24th for registration to reopen.
The dates and locations for the 2012 Junior Lifeguard session have been posted below.
WHO: Boys and Girls - 6-15 years old (6-8 years old Seacliff Only!)
WHERE: Manresa, Seacliff and Twin Lakes State Beaches
WHY: Develop Ocean Safety! Learn about the local environment! Have fun!
The Junior Lifeguard program is a unique
and challenging aquatic program for young people. Goals of the JG program are to promote water safety and environmental awareness.
WHEN: All programs run Monday through Friday - 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
*If you are a new Junior Lifeguard participant (i.e. have never participated in the Santa Cruz State Junior Lifeguard Program you are REQUIRED to attend the Tryouts in May.
Seacliff State Beach (ages 6-15):
Session I - June 11th - July 6th, 2012
Session II - July 16th - Aug 10th, 2012
Manresa State Beach (ages 9-15):
Session I - June 11th - July 6th, 2012
Session II - July 16th - Aug 10th, 2012
Twin Lakes State Beach (ages 9-15):
Session I - June 18th - July 13th, 2012
Session II - July 23rd- Aug 17th, 2012
